On a usual morning, a not so usual incident happened when I had to travel in my father's car on an unplanned trip and I was unaware that it was going to become even more unusual. As we were moving away from the dust, heat, and depression of the city life towards the greener fields; the fresh air was kissing my cheeks. My frizzy hair got some lift and so my mood. As I was entering the village, the barber's shop like an old friend smiled at me, the old banyan tree like a grandfather blessed me. And we reached our farmhouse where tenants welcomed us with a smile and some "chai and bhujiya". Everyone was excited to attend the wedding except me, not a surprise. Everyone was getting ready with tons of makeup on their dull faces and shiny dresses to sprinkle some sparkle on their dull life. It seems they were not wearing dresses but the dresses were wearing them. I was busy playing cricket with children of tenants. We reached the wedding venue (it wasn't a banquet hall...

ReplyDeleteBeautiful poem. You have presented a analogy between wealth n English lifestyle. English has become synonymous with well being n earning potential. We are forgetting our roots in the race to improve our living standard.
